What is a moon phase display?
A moon phase display shows the current phase of the moon on the dial.
Depending on the model, it shows whether it's currently a new moon, waxing moon, full moon or waning moon.
The moon phase is a so-called complication – in other words, an additional function of a watch. It's mainly a decorative and traditional design element.
The moon phase display has no effect on normal timekeeping. The time continues to run independently of it.
When does the moon phase move?
The moon phase display doesn't move continuously and visibly, but is advanced step by step via the movement.
On our moon phase watch, the moon phase advances once within 24 hours. This is important for customers to know: the display doesn't jump to a fixed, visible time in the morning or evening, but follows the movement's 24-hour cycle.
If the moon phase doesn't match the actual moon phase, it needs to be set correctly using the watch's setting function.
